Appeals to Help Iraqi Refugees in Jordan

Eyeglasses for Abdallah

leave a comment »

Abdallah was injured in a Baghdad explosion in 2008. He lost one eye and had several surgeries to repair the remaining eye. Fearful that he would be injured further or killed, Abdallah, his wife, and two babies left Iraq in 2009 for a better life.

He didn’t realize how difficult this new life would be. Not only was he disadvantaged because of his decreased eyesight, but he was mistreated in Jordan because of being an Iraqi refugee. His  neighbors often yelled obscenities at him, and he cannot find work because of his poor eyesight.

If Abdallah was able to afford the special glasses that his doctor prescribed to him, he is sure that his life would improve. His eyesight would improve because these special glasses prevent the constant infections that currently plague him. Unfortunately, the 700 JOD (982 USD) needed to purchase these special glasses is out of reach for Abdallah.
