Appeals to Help Iraqi Refugees in Jordan

Treatment of Iraqi Refugees

leave a comment »

Unfortunately most Iraqi refugees aren’t well received in Jordan. Finding a place to live can be extremely difficult because landlords are wary of refugee tenants who at times cannot pay rent. Because of this, many Iraqis are forced to live in poor neighborhoods with high crime rates.

Some employers take advantage of refugees. Knowing that many Iraqis are unable to work legally in Jordan, these employers pay lower than normal wages. Often times, Iraqi refugees do hard physical labor for 10-12 hours a day receiving just over 100 USD a month.

Iraqi refugees often times find themselves against odds when dealing with Jordanian law enforcement. Some are even accused of crimes that they didn’t commit, as is the case with Omar Farook.
