In June 2011, AbuBakr and his family came to Jordan. He worked as an engineer in the oil industry in Iraq. In Iraq, he lent $25,000 to an officer. Later, when AbuBakr asked the officer for the money back, AbuBakr was kidnapped. A friend paid ransom money to release AbuBakr. This kidnapping ordeal prompted his flight to Jordan.

Financially, they are experiencing great hardship as they do not have enough money to survive. AbuBakr and his wife have three children.
